Historical overview
The Amiret Hojjej area is one of the ancient historical landmarks in the Tunisian coastal region. Families have settled there for centuries and it is known for its agricultural and commercial activity and strong ties with neighboring coastal cities. Its geographical location has contributed to linking the interior to the coast and enhancing economic and social exchanges.
Over time, the region has experienced significant urban expansion and demographic growth, which has reinforced the need for an independent municipal structure to care for citizens’ affairs. Pursuant to Government Order No. 600 of 2016, dated May 26, 2016, the Municipality of Amiret Hojjej was established. It includes the following districts: Amiret Hojjej, Amiret El Touazera, and Amiret Beni Ansar.
Today, the municipality seeks to preserve the region’s heritage and authentic traditions, while simultaneously advancing sustainable local development and improving the quality of life for its residents.
